Carbon Bonds are an invention of Carbon Equities New Zealand Limited (CEQ). They are a “advance-purchase-promise-to-deliver” financial instrument sold in advance of formal voluntary credit issue. The Buyer has the opportunity to secure credits for a fixed price in advance of their issue, while the Issuer benefits from obtaining carbon offset development funds in advance of project work. The Issuer completes the carbon credit issue project and delivers carbon credit packages to the Buyer according to the quantity of credits and year specified on the Carbon Bond.
