Nosy Lava & Nosy Iranja Island Group, Sofia Province, Madagascar

Community group in north-western Madagascar, working to protect vulnerable mangrove habitats from deforestation and pollution. Dugongs, "seacows", extremely rare marine mammals, feed exclusively on seagrass resources in this area. Internationally critical habitat remanants can be protected through biodiversity and carbon revenue with the participation and dedicated stewardship of local communities.
